GB-FAMC halts allocation of some donations

The GB-FAMC has recently halted the transfer of some donations received by Auroville to the beneficiaries, in some cases stating that “there are few concerns that should be clarified with you, based on proven feedback.”

An Auroville health scare started some weeks ago, when three aggressive dogs were reported in and around the Auroville grounds. The Auroville Dog Shelter was on call, and was able to collect and quarantine all three dogs.

I first visited Auroville in 2000 as a student in the Living Routes programme. After I came home, Auroville lived inside me. I dreamed about it and imagined myself there, but I didn’t go back for 13 years.

WasteLess needs support

WasteLess, the Auroville unit that for the last 12 years has specialized in developing education on waste management, in its first Newsletter writes that it is in financial difficulty and is struggling to stay afloat, even though many community members have pledged their generous support.

SAIIER budget cuts

In a note to the community, the Auroville School Board shared that schools’ financial situation has become more difficult since July of 2024.

New donation guidelines take effect

In April 2022, units and projects that had been receiving donations from abroad were informed that the Funds and Assets Management Committee constituted by the Governing Board of the Auroville Foundation had come up with a process to ensure compatibility with the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

New donation channeling process

The establishment of the Donation Channeling Group (DCG) was approved by the Governing Board in their 65th meeting held on 12th Dec 2023. The DCG team will roll out the donation channeling process from 1st April 2024, the start of the new financial year.

On May 4th, Luigi Zanzi passed away in his apartment in Citadines. He had been struggling with his health for quite some time, and would have been 70 this year.

On April 01, 2009, John, Elumalai, Pierre and Srimoyi took charge as executives of the Matrimandir. On July 31st, after more than 8 years of dedicated service, their term of office is coming to an end.

Throughout February, the walls and spaces of the Unity Pavilion were filled with over 300 artworks donated by over 70 artists from Auroville and around the world.

August 15th – Sri Aurobindo’s birthday – was the occasion for the inauguration of new phases in Auroville’s three land fundraising campaigns: Phase 3 of the Acres for Auroville land campaign; the second year of the Green Acres campaign, and the second phase of the Art for Land action.

The Joy of Offering

The Joy of Offering contains selections from Madanlal Himatsingka’s correspondence with The Mother. Madanlal, who passed away in 2004, was a great devotee of The Mother and one of her tireless fundraisers, in later years for Auroville, and in particular for the Matrimandir.
