Minutes of the 68th Governing Board meeting

On 20 March, the Ministry of Education, responding to two Right to Information requests dated 25 and 26 February, sent the applicant a copy of the Minutes of the 68th Meeting of the Governing Board (GB) of the Auroville Foundation held on 5 December 2024, which have since been widely distributed in Auroville.

Practising Vedic astrology

Vedic astrology, called Jyotisha Shastra in Sanskrit, is the traditional Hindu system of astrology which has its roots in the Vedanga Jyotisha, one of the earliest texts about astronomy within the ancient Vedas.

Sustainable land use planning

Since a couple of years, Auroville Consulting has been looking for scalable solutions for climate action. One of the ones they have developed is a carbon converter which anybody can use to calculate their transport emissions, with an added option to plant trees and offset the same.

The Carbon Converter

On August 20th, Auroville Consulting launched an online calculator of transport-related greenhouse gas emissions. The calculator, called the Carbon Converter, has been developed with the aim of helping individuals become aware of their impact on the environment and participate in climate action.

Since July this year, Auroville Green Practices (AGP), a community organisation managed by Auroville Consulting, has been hosting numerous webinars, with over 1,500 people participating on more than a dozen topics, such as zero waste, upcycling, water management, vegan raw food, permaculture, and earth architecture, natural building technologies, Ferro-cement, solar energy, and many more.

On 5th December, Auroville Consulting launched the Solar Village Search Engine to help fund its Solar Village Initiative, which aims to power 100 villages in Tamil Nadu with solar by the year 2030.

Dave Storey is an Aurovilian with a background in humanitarian and development aid. Recently, he announced that he was planning to run a course with Auroville Consulting on the theme of ‘Towards Resilience in a Messy World’.

Smart Street Lights

Auroville Consulting has designed and is in charge of implementing the installation of 87 smart street lights along the Crown road from the Farewell Centre to the Mahalakshmi Home, from the Visitors Centre to Savitri Bhavan and from the Matrimandir Visitors’ Gate to Solar Kitchen Roundabout.

Auroville and Puducherry PV collaboration

A 45kW rooftop solar PV system was designed and installed by Auroville’s unit Sunlit Future on the French Consulate in Pondicherry. Auroville has collaborated with Pondicherry previously providing rooftop grid-connected solar PV systems for two residences, as well as some buildings of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

Energy Conservation & Efficiency – A Guidebook for Responsible Energy Management has been published by Auroville Consulting. The publication is devised to help residents understand various technologies available in the market and make pre-meditated choices in choosing the most energy efficient appliances.

Linking Learners @ ProSkills

The Eluciole Circus

Higher education and learning opportunities have been on the minds of many groups such as the Centre for International Research on Human Unity (CIRHU), Auroville Campus Initiative (ACI), Auroville Consulting, and Youth Link, all of which have focused on linking learners with a myriad of existing resources within the community.

AVC appointed knowledge partner

Auroville Consulting has been actively working with the Ministry of Urban Development (Government of India) in relation to the Government’s Smart City initiative and has been appointed a knowledge partner for the city of Bhubaneswar.

In the midst of the heavy rains that brought life to a standstill in most areas of Tamil Nadu, an energetic group of people came to Auroville from all over India.

Irumbai solar village

The Government of Tamil Nadu has approved a Solar Village Project for Irumbai village which has been promoted by Auroville Consulting. The pilot project will demonstrate that a village can (on an annual basis) produce all the energy it consumes from grid-connected solar PV systems and should / can therefore be exempted from load shedding.
