The Carbon Converter

On August 20th, Auroville Consulting launched an online calculator of transport-related greenhouse gas emissions. The calculator, called the Carbon Converter, has been developed with the aim of helping individuals become aware of their impact on the environment and participate in climate action.

Individuals can measure the emissions generated from their flight, car, bus and train trips which they can then reduce or rebalance by supporting the afforestation efforts in Auroville for a small fee. Tree saplings planted on their behalf in collaboration with the Forest Group will sequester carbon dioxide over the lifetime of the trees.

So far, the site has been visited almost 400 times, and funds have been raised for the planting of 76 trees.
