Sharnga community

Marco Feira passed away in his house in Sharnga community on 26 December at the age of 74. He had been suffering from cancer. Marco joined Auroville almost 30 years ago.

Born in Tunis, Tunisia, on the 4th October 1946, Bernard Borg moved in 1961 with his family to Marseille, in France, while he was still a young boy of 15.

In the October issue of Auroville Today, we published a humorous little piece that pondered how the names of Auroville’s communities came about.

Ranging in activity from restaurants to consulting, fashion, construction and more, Auroville has over 250 commercial units. Many of them have developed a reputation for excellence that extends beyond the community, often becoming a first introduction to Auroville for those far away.

From the pioneer days of Auroville's children traveling to school on horseback, Aurovilians have had a long affinity with ponies and horses.

Marco joined Auroville 22 years ago. He reflects here on his many and varied activities, most of which are shaped by a love of the arts.

In spite of threats of a monsoon downpour, five per cent of Auroville made its way along the unfamiliar paths and tracks to Sharnga, skidding and sticking in the mud, here and there taking wrong turns, but eventually arriving at the ‘Palacio’.

La Musica Deuxième, a play for two actors by Marguerite Duras, was performed this summer by Theatre d’Expression d’Auroville, on three consecutive evenings in Auroville.
