Housing Board

Residents’ Assembly decisions

The Residents’ Assembly Service (RAS) announced that the Residents’ Assembly of Auroville had approved two proposals with majority vote. The proposal that the RA can make an emergency Residents’ Assembly Decision (RAD) at a petition signed by at least 300 residents was approved by 402 participants (98% of all votes cast).

Housing matters

The FA Housing Service recently announced that a dedicated team will be visiting communities to speak with residents. Community members can discuss any ongoing activities/plans that they are carrying out and if there are any challenges.

Beyond mandate?

The RA approved Housing Board has also been removed from their positions, and have been locked out of the Housing Google accounts as well as the Housing Service office.

Housing matters

The Housing Board decided on the principle that assets that have been left after the passing of an Aurovilian ought to, where possible, be presented to the community as houses against recognised work (formerly pro-bono houses).

Newcomer housing

The Housing Board is struggling to find accommodation for those without funds, as it can on average only allocate five pro bono houses each year.

Housing issues

The Housing Board has published a note on the way its deals with house pricings and transfers. The stewardship of newly-built houses is being allocated at cost price, while the transfer price of existing houses is assessed on the basis of a valuation made by a certified valuator.

Housing issues

The Housing Service and the Housing Board have concluded that as at present there are no funds available for housing for Aurovilians without financial means, it is not possible to accept any more new Aurovilians without them having the minimum funds for housing.

Developing Sri Ma

The Housing Board has informed the community that it believes that the development of Sri Ma as a beach resort, a large-scale income generating unit with a 50-rooms guest facility, is not developing as planned.
