69th Governing Board meeting further updates

In the last Auroville Today, we reported that the 69th Governing Board meeting had taken place and we noted some of the major decisions which had been taken.

Land exchanges questioned

On November 11th, an article in the Times of India mentioned that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (All India Anna Dravidian Progressive Federation - AIADMK), currently the main opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, which has great influence in the state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry, demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India's primary domestic crime-investigating agency, into the alleged irregularities in land exchanges at Auroville.

In memoriam - J. Jayaraman

Jairam by Yatra Srinivassan

J. Jayaraman, Jairam for those who knew him, joined Auroville at a very young age in 1970. He was born in Alankuppam (1959) and his childhood in the village had been a difficult one.

In memoriam - Goupi

Goupi

Long-term Aurovilian Goupi (Jean-Pierre Bunel) peacefully passed away at Marika’s Home in the evening of Monday, June 24th. He had just turned 82 years old.

In memoriam - Velmurugan

Velmurugan

M. Velmurugan son of Madhusudan left his body on May 13th. He was 53 years old. Velmurugan along with his parents have been part of Auroville from its inception.

In memoriam - Shakuntala Patel

Shakuntala  Patel

On February 20th, Shakuntala Patel passed away at her residence in Swayam. She was 78 years old. Shakuntala came to Pondicherry and Auroville in the early 1970s and spent many years here.

In memoriam - Eva

Eva

On February 11th, Eva passed away in her apartment in Citadines after a brain haemorrhage. She had just celebrated her 77th birthday on February 8th with her fraternal family in Citadines community, full of joy and deeply happy.

Land exchange

Several communities have been visited recently by unidentified people who claimed their visits were due to ongoing land-exchange negotiations.

Subir (Olivier Caracostea)

Subir (Olivier Caracostea) passed away on 30 April of this year in Orleans (France) due to cancer. He was 68 years old. Subir had a Romanian grandfather and came from a family linked to the Theosophical Society in Paris.

In memoriam - Andrey Grigorachtchenko

Andrey Grig

On October 8th, Andrey Grigorachtchenko from Russia passed away in Djaima at the age of 58. Called by Auroville’s ideals, Andrey first came to Auroville in 1985 where he was welcomed as the first Russian and lived for a short while in Ekta, Auromodèle.
